BALANCE
NUMBER
People experience different internal
responses to life's challenges. Some withdraw from difficult
situations to think them through; others withdraw from their
emotions, to try and keep themselves from feeling anything.
Some explode with emotions, but allow the explosion to pass
quickly. Others linger with their feelings, holding on to
them well past the time they should have let them go.
Often, these are conditioned or
emotional responses that emerge without thought or analysis.
We have been influenced to respond in this way. Maturity and
self-development help us to learn new and more effective methods
of handling our world and the problems we confront. Your Balance
number provides you with the guidance on how best to deal
with difficult or threatening situations.
The Balance number is found by
adding the numerical value of the initials of the full name
at birth and reducing it to a single-digit or until a Master
number is encountered.
Example: In John Peter Hancock, the initials of J, P, and
H, translate to 1, 7, and 8, which add to 16, which adds to
7 (the 16 being a Karmic Debt number, is written as 16/7).
MATURITY
NUMBER
Your Maturity number indicates
an underlying wish or desire that gradually surfaces around
age thirty to thirty-five. This underlying goal begins to
emerge as you gain a better understanding of yourself. With
self-knowledge comes a greater awareness of who you are, what
your true goals in life are, and what direction you want to
set for your life. This, in a nutshell, is the gift of maturity:
You no longer waste time and energy on things that are not
within your own special identity.
No matter what your age is at present,
you life is being channeled in a specific direction, toward
a very specific goal. That goal can be seen as a reward or
the fulfillment of a promise that is implicit in your current
efforts, often without your knowing it consciously. While
the characteristics of this number are usually visible during
childhood, we tend to lose sight of these aspects until later
in life. But our lives are always being affected by this influence,
nonetheless.
Your Maturity number begins to
have a more profound impact on your life after the age of
35. The influence of the number increases steadily as you
grow older.
The Maturity number is the sum
of the Life Path and the Expression number reduced to a single-digit
or a Master number.
MINOR
EXPRESSION NUMBER
The Minor Expression number is
based on the current (or short) name, the name you now use
to introduce yourself including your last name.
The influence of the short name
is minor in comparison to your full name. Interestingly, the
short name often compensates in some way for numbers (and
their related characteristics) that are missing or out of
balance in the full name.
For instance, a number missing
in the full name may show up prominently in the short name;
or a number (or numbers) that appears in excess in the full
name can be compensated for in the short name. If a name change
takes place later in life through marriage or for professional
reasons, it adds or subtracts certain qualities. It can also
focus and intensify existing characteristics or talents that
may be latent.
As a rule, I recommend that you
don't change your name on impulse. Marriage, of course, does
not leave much room for choice, although more and more women
are hyphenating their names or staying with their maiden names.
However, if you must change your name (for professional reasons,
for example), try to choose a name already in your family,
and thus connected to you through your ancestors. Those characteristics
are already present in your lineage, which makes the new name
easier to assimilate into your personality.
In answer to some commonly asked
questions when it comes to short names:
-
The short name is the name
you feel closest to in relaxed and social settings.
-
The short name is the name
you would use when thinking about yourself, including
your last name.
-
When figuring out the Minor
Expression number, never use the middle initial, unless
you introduce yourself with that initial, such as: "Hi,
I'm Tom J. Hancock."
-
Names you have used in the
past reveal inner feelings and characteristics that were
prominent during that period in your life. If you are
no longer using that name, it bears no resemblance to
your current identity.
To find your Minor Expression number,
use the same formula used to find the Expression number, but
apply this formula to the name you now use to introduce yourself,
including your last name.
MINOR
HEART'S DESIRE NUMBER
The Minor Heart's Desire number
is derived from the vowels of your short name. The short name
is a refinement of the more complex qualities of your longer
name (the full name at birth). It sharpens and bundles the
energies that are reflected by your full name. It intensifies
certain aspects of your being , and de-emphasizes others.
For this reason, the short name often provides insight into
what you truly want in life. It also often reveals the extent
of your understanding of what you want from this life. It
reveals both your strong desires, and the limits you place
upon your potential.
To find your Minor Heart's Desire
number, add the sum total of the vowels of your short or current
name in the same manner as that described under Heart's
Desire.
MINOR
PERSONALITY NUMBER
The Minor Personality number is
based on the consonants of your short or current name, and
it gives additional information about how you present yourself
to the outer world. This number reveals in particular those
aspects of your personality that your are, or have become,
most comfortable with.
A name change that occurs later
in life, such as through marriage or for professional reasons,
can have a significant impact on your approach and your attitude
in dealing with others, and this is reflected in your Minor
Personality number. For this reason, name changes should
be considered carefully, perhaps with the guidance of
a numerologist. With a marriage, for instance, a hyphenated
name is suggested, to add traits without changing your attitude
entirely.
To find your Minor Personality
number, add the numerical value of the consonants of your
short name, and reduce to a single digit, just like you did
for the Personality number.
KARMIC
LESSONS
MORE
ABOUT YOUR NAME
Know thyself.
--inscription at the Delphic Oracle.
So far, we have talked about the
strongest, and usually the most obvious, aspects of a person's
character. But now we enter into the more hidden realms, where
people are driven by desires or ambitions that even they may
not be aware of. In order to become free human beings, we
must make these subtle, unconscious traits conscious. We must
become aware of ourselves in our deepest recesses in order
to take control of our lives. Otherwise, we are slaves to
our unconscious desires.
The Karmic Lesson Chart.
Numerology is based on the understanding
that we enter life with certain strengths and weaknesses.
Karmic Lessons are areas that we are currently weak in, and
that we must face and work on in this life. There can be more
than one Karmic Lesson.
As we have already seen, each letter
in your name corresponds to a specific number. Certain numbers
repeat within your name, while others may be missing. Karmic
Lessons are indicated when one or more of the nine single-digit
numbers are missing in your name. A Karmic Strength is suggested
when a number is represented two or more times (See
Hidden Passion)
The letters and numbers of your
name point to talents and abilities that you possess. These
characteristics can be compared to a workshop in which certain
tools are available to you. Missing numbers, those that are
not represented in the letters of your name, imply tools that
are unavailable, and that must be learned and mastered during
this lifetime.
For people with three or more numbers
missing, it is supremely important to focus on your career
and talents, and to persevere in the face of any difficulty
or obstacle. The kind of keyhole energy suggested by such
a name gives you the ability to achieve great success in a
specific part of life; but before such a success can be achieved,
adversity must be overcome. Perseverance, therefore, becomes
the key to happiness.
How to Find Your Karmic Lessons.
The Karmic Lessons are found by
finding which numbers are missing among the letters in the
full name at birth. You can have none, one, or several Karmic
Lessons.
For example, in the name Thomas
John Hancock, we find the following numbers to be present:

We find all numbers represented
except the 7 and 9, which are missing. Therefore, Thomas has
two Karmic Lessons: 7 and 9.
HIDDEN
PASSIONS
As I mentioned in the text on Karmic
Lessons, numbers that appear several times in your name represent
a particular strength or ability. The number that is most
often repeated in your name represents your specific field
of expertise, or a concentrated talent.
Metaphorically, this talent can
be seen as having a power all its own to shape your life.
Its existence gives you a strong desire to develop and to
express that particular ability. Having the talent demands
that you express it, that you experience this part of
you, and that you live according to its nature. In this way,
the Hidden Passion shapes your personality, and guides your
life.
In our example above of Thomas
John Hancock, you will notice that the number 1 is represented
more often than any other number in Thomas name. His
Hidden Passion therefore is 1.
